About this plant
Wavy is a selected Lobelia cardinalis form with rippled leaves and a compact, branching habit. It is not the same as simply selling the standard plant in a smaller pot, nor should it automatically be merged into the separate Mini selection. A low midground group makes the leaf edges visible. Trim the main stems to encourage branching instead of waiting for a single tall shoot to turn into a cushion. Emergent purple-backed leaves can be replaced by greener submerged foliage; underwater leaf texture is the more useful identifying feature. Plant sound shoots with enough space for light and water movement to reach their lower leaves. Use balanced macro- and micronutrient nutrition rather than treating colour alone as evidence of a specific deficiency. Trim established shoots and replant healthy tops to renew an ageing group. Nursery-grown leaves can change shape or be shed after submersion; assess the condition of new shoots and roots. Remove decaying material rather than allowing it to accumulate below the canopy. Care ranges, where supplied, describe reported cultivation conditions rather than measured lethal limits. Width and nutrient concentrations are left unspecified where no defensible form-specific values are available.
