About this plant
Dark Angel is a small-leaved Anubias selection with a low, spreading silhouette. Young foliage is green; the much darker appearance develops as leaves mature. The value of this form is the combination of small firm blades and a flattened outline, not a guarantee of black foliage. Use it as a restrained accent on the front of a root or between pale rocks. A Japanese cultivation account reports leaves only around 10–20 mm long, whereas supplier whole-plant size claims are much larger. Leaf length must not be mistaken for aquarium height, so no firm mature-height range is assigned here. Attach the rhizome to wood or stone without covering its growing stem. Roots may enter the substrate, but a buried rhizome can decay. Keep the slow-growing leaves free of debris, provide balanced water-column nutrition and avoid abrupt changes made only to chase a colour. Trim damaged leaves at their base. Divide an established rhizome into healthy leaf-bearing sections; emersed-grown stock can replace some leaves after submersion. Care ranges, where supplied, describe reported cultivation conditions rather than measured lethal limits. Width and nutrient concentrations are left unspecified where no defensible form-specific values are available.
