About this plant
Dark Velvet is a Bucephalandra culture form with elongated narrow leaves and a subdued, velvety surface. It offers a different texture from glossy, broad-leaved forms even when both plants appear dark green. A position near the front of a wood branch lets the narrow blades remain visible. Avoid rubbing the surface aggressively in an attempt to create a brighter colour. Slow replacement of damaged leaves makes prevention of detritus and algae accumulation especially useful. Secure the plant to rock or wood and leave its creeping rhizome uncovered. Gentle circulation keeps debris from settling on slow-growing foliage. Maintain balanced nutrition and stable conditions; sudden changes may be followed by leaf loss. Remove deteriorating leaves and preserve a firm living rhizome. Propagate established plants by dividing healthy leaf-bearing sections. Emerse and submerse leaf appearance can differ. General Bucephalandra guidance is not a measured tolerance limit for every named culture form. Care ranges, where supplied, describe reported cultivation conditions rather than measured lethal limits. Width and nutrient concentrations are left unspecified where no defensible form-specific values are available.
