About this plant
Ammannia capitellata is a moderately growing stem plant with upright shoots and narrow foliage that ranges from green to yellow-green and orange under strong aquarium lighting. It entered the hobby under the name Nesaea triflora and has also circulated as Ammannia mauritiana, but the accepted species name is Ammannia capitellata. In planted aquariums, groups are commonly maintained at about 20 to 40 cm by trimming and replanting healthy shoot tips. Medium to high light, stable carbon dioxide and balanced fertilisation support compact growth and clearer colour, while shaded stems become greener and more open. Space individual cuttings so that light reaches the lower leaves, and renew older groups before their bases become bare. The plant can also grow emersed. Its upright habit and warm green-to-orange colour make it useful as a structured midground or background accent in aquascapes.
