About this plant
Limnophila sessiliflora, often called Ambulia, is an easy and very fast-growing Asian stem plant with finely divided green leaves. It can grow under relatively low light, although stronger lighting produces denser shoots and shorter spaces between the leaf whorls. Carbon dioxide is not essential for basic cultivation, but it improves compactness and helps the plant recover quickly after trimming. Aquarium stems commonly reach 15 to 40 cm and about 3 to 4 cm in width, making the species best suited to grouped background planting. Cut the tops before they shade slower plants and replant healthy sections to renew the stand. Under favourable conditions, established stems may also send out runners along the substrate. Its rapid nutrient uptake and reliable growth make Limnophila sessiliflora useful during the early stages of a planted aquarium as well as for creating a soft, feathery green background.
