About this plant

Rotala macrandra 'Mini Type 2' is a small-leaved cultivated form associated with the Indian species Rotala macrandra. It is also traded as Rotala sp. 'Mini Type 2' or simply 'Mini 2'. The plant has a more compact appearance than standard R. macrandra and may show green to reddish foliage depending on light, nutrition and growth stage. High light, stable carbon dioxide and soft, slightly acidic water are important for dense, healthy growth. The plant is considered difficult because it reacts quickly to unstable CO2, poor circulation and nutrient imbalance. Trim healthy tops and replant them to renew the group; the remaining stems may branch if they are still in good condition. It is useful in nano aquariums and as a fine-textured foreground or midground accent. A numerical height range is not assigned here because available records describe the cultivar's compact habit but do not provide a sufficiently consistent maintained size.
