About this plant

Hedyotis salzmannii is the established aquarium name for the South American stem plant currently accepted botanically as Oldenlandia salzmannii. It forms fine stems with small green leaves and can be maintained as a compact group through frequent trimming, or allowed to grow upward in the midground or background. A dependable aquarium height range is not stated here because published trade values conflict and this uncommon plant has repeatedly been confused with Bacopa monnieri 'Compact'. Bacopa sp. 'Pantanal' is therefore retained only as a misapplied hobby name, not as a botanical synonym. Medium to strong light, stable carbon dioxide and balanced fertilisation support dense branching. Trim healthy shoot tips and replant them when older lower stems become sparse. The species also grows emersed and propagates readily from cuttings. Its delicate green form makes it useful for compact plant groups and detailed nano-aquarium layouts.
