About this plant

Staurogyne sp. 'Porto Velho' is a low, creeping Brazilian aquarium plant with narrow pointed leaves that can appear grey-green with purple tones. It was first circulated under Hygrophila names, including 'Porto Velho' and 'Roraima', but flower characteristics place the cultivated form in the genus Staurogyne. Records connect it with the Brazilian states of Rondônia and Roraima. Under aquarium conditions it grows moderately and is commonly maintained at about 5 to 10 cm, making it suitable for the foreground, low midground and nano layouts. Medium to strong light encourages creeping growth; under weaker light the shoots become more upright. Added carbon dioxide is recommended for a compact, healthy stand, but no exact universal dose is assigned. Trim and replant healthy shoots to extend the group. This plant is distinct from Staurogyne repens and should not be merged with that more common species.
