About this plant
Staurogyne sp. 'Bihar' is a vigorous aquarium stem plant traded under an unresolved species name. It was formerly circulated as Hygrophila sp. 'Bihar', but its floral characteristics place it closer to Staurogyne. The submerged leaves are highly variable: some remain entire, while others develop lobes reminiscent of Hygrophila pinnatifida. Colour ranges from green to reddish brown, often with paler pink tones on the underside. With a practical care height of about 15 to 30 cm, this is not a tiny carpeting plant; it is better used as an expressive midground group or compact background accent. Medium to strong light, stable carbon dioxide and regular fertilisation support dense growth. The stems grow quickly and respond well to pruning. Healthy tops can be replanted as cuttings, while the remaining bases produce new side shoots.
