Eriocaulon sp. "Polaris"

Eriocaulon sp. "Polaris" is an unidentified Eriocaulon of unknown origin that resembles Eriocaulon cinereum in overall habit. It forms compact, highly decorative rosettes with numerous narrow leaves radiating outward, giving mature plants a characteristic hedgehog-like appearance. It remains relatively small and grows slowly, making it especially useful as a solitary accent plant in the foreground or lower midground of aquascapes and nano aquariums. This form is more demanding than many common aquarium plants. Strong lighting, soft water, active soil and stable carbon dioxide supplementation are strongly recommended. Aquasabi specifically recommends approximately 20–30 mg/l CO2. Consistent macro- and micronutrient supply is also important, while excessively hard or alkaline conditions should be avoided. Newly planted in-vitro specimens may possess only limited root systems and should therefore be placed carefully into fine-grained soil or temporarily secured until they establish. Once settled, the compact star-shaped rosettes provide a strong architectural contrast to carpeting and stem plants. Because the plant has not been botanically identified, its precise geographic origin and species-level taxonomy should remain listed as unresolved.
