About this plant

Unidentified Hygrophila introduced from the Goa–Maharashtra region of western India in the 2010s and probably belonging to the Hygrophila ringens complex. In nature it occurs in sunny, swampy floodplain habitats. Submerged shoots are upright and only sparsely branched, with internodes around 4–6 cm and broad-lanceolate to narrow-elliptic leaves at least about 7 cm long. Leaves are dark olive green and the shoot tips can turn brown-red under good light. The plant is easy and fast-growing, reaching at least 50 cm. Aquasabi gives about 22–28 °C and pH 5–8; 20–30 mg/l CO2 plus complete macro- and micronutrition is highly beneficial. Frequent topping encourages branching. It also grows well emersed and may flower blue-violet.
