About this plant
Red Phoenix is a cultivated sword plant with narrow reddish foliage and contrasting lighter lines. It provides a more linear outline than broad oval-leaved sword hybrids. Set the crown where its longer leaves can project into open water. Nursery-grown emergent leaves may be rounder than the underwater foliage, so compare established submerged growth when checking the culture form. Red intensity is condition-dependent, and an older greenish blade does not automatically indicate a mislabelled plant. Plant the roots in an adequately nourished substrate while leaving the crown at its surface. Allow room for the rosette rather than using the dimensions of a nursery pot as its final footprint. Remove unwanted outer leaves at their base. Balanced root-zone nutrition supports establishment; it does not guarantee a particular colour. Emergent leaves can be replaced underwater. Where flower-stalk plantlets develop, allow them to form roots before separating them. Care ranges, where supplied, describe reported cultivation conditions rather than measured lethal limits. Width and nutrient concentrations are left unspecified where no defensible form-specific values are available.
