About this plant
Small rheophytic Bucephalandra described scientifically in 2016 and native to the Maligan Highlands of Sarawak on Borneo. In nature it grows on mossy sandstone in the flood zone of streams. The species is distinctive for very narrow, linear, rather stiff leaves with smooth to only slightly wavy margins, dark green upper surfaces and reddish tones on the petioles and undersides. Its short rhizome branches strongly and forms dense tufts. Growth is very slow. In the aquarium it should be attached to rock or wood, or planted with the rhizome exposed. Low light is sufficient; moderate light, stable nutrients, gentle-to-good current and supplemental CO2 generally improve density and colour. Propagate by dividing established rhizomes or removing side shoots.
