Bucephalandra sp. "Lamandau Mini Red"

Bucephalandra sp. "Lamandau Mini Red" is a small, low-growing Bucephalandra trade form that is believed, based on its trade name, to originate from the Lamandau region of southwestern Borneo. Its exact species identity has not been determined, and the locality should therefore be treated as probable rather than fully documented. Aquasabi reports that this plant cannot be distinguished from a form traded as Bucephalandra sp. "Deep Purple", making Deep Purple an important horticultural synonym. Cultivated stock is propagated in nurseries and tissue culture rather than being supplied from current wild collection. Lamandau Mini Red forms densely branched creeping rhizomes and develops a compact bushy habit. Leaves are short-petioled, elongate-obovate and distinctly wavy, reaching about 3.5 cm in length and approximately 1 cm in width. Young submerged leaves show attractive red-brown coloration, while older foliage becomes dark green. Growth is very slow. Medium lighting, stable CO2, full nutrient supply and good water movement produce the best appearance, although the plant can survive under lower-tech conditions. It should be attached to stone or wood or rested on substrate with the rhizome exposed. Propagation is by separating head and lateral shoots.
